QWe start with a brief view of philosopher and political theorist G. Hegel in order to establish some clear concepts from the get go. His understanding of the interplay between the concepts are directly related to what he calls the Spirit of the Time.
We then move into exploring digital technology and user generated content and its impacts on both the individual and society. How users are engaged with digital media in content creation is changing the dynamics of communication.
Third we look at the proposed Canadian Copyright Modernization Act - Bill C-32 - and see which provisions will have a direct effects on how digital media will be used. With a focus on Fair Use (fair dealing) and Digital Locks, the bill seems to be a bit short of being balanced.
In the end, its all tied together and we see how digital media, user generated content, copyright legislation and Hegel's conception of freedom and progress fits together.
I had a lot of fun creating this project. I did have to cut out quite a bit of material in the hopes of bringing down the time as well as getting it finished on time. Arguments and support about how progress could be stunted under the legislation through reducing our ability to make rational choices were sacrificed in the name of time constraints; had to get'er done.
I am posting it now because it is part of the requirement of the project. So thats that and this is this.
Hope you enjoy.
