Seven small greenhouses were set up on the M5 Industries roof. Four were set up with stereos playing endlessly looping recordings (as having the MythBusters actually talk to the plants could contaminate the samples with their expelled carbon dioxide): Two of negative speech, two of positive speech (Kari and Scottie each made one positive and one negative inducing soundtrack), a fifth with classical music and a sixth with intense death metal music. A seventh greenhouse, used as a control sample, had no stereo. The greenhouses with the recordings of speech grew better than the control, regardless of whether such talk was kind or angry. The plants in the greenhouse with the recording of classical music grew better, while the plants in the greenhouse with the recording of intense death metal grew best of all.

  • So they didn't actually prove anything... I WOULD believe their conclusion if they had started over and actually watered the plants this time!

  • Wtf? Did you do something with the audio record? Its 3-7 secounds ahead

  • I dont even want to watch this shit. can we please have the results.

  • @Victronasaurus Band was Chimaira and the song that Tory listened to in the store was Pure Hatred by them. :)

  • @carnivalchaotic they did prove something, they said its plausible that means it could be possible that talking to them makes them grow faster. i believe that plain out talking to them be better instead of the CD, what your doing when you straight up talk to them you are giving them CO2 which helps the plant.

  • This is it, I'm doing this for Science Fair LOL

  • The only thing is that each seed carrys there own genetics. A buck shot of traits from previous parents.

They should of cloned 1 plant for all the Greenhouse

  • @theminibuscus I would think so too, this is the simplest explanation (if your a materialist) but there are no actual mechanics to say how this is done and why sound should have any affect on how sounds speeds up growth. At the least it is very suprising and it is just a theory for now, it is also possible that the plant has consiousness in some form and actually experiences the music.

  • @soldatheero I'm taking a guess but maybe because of the sound waves?

  • @Chameleonzippy17 the soundwaves matter, not the person's presence.

  • @soldatheero in biological terms, music or sounds in some frequency ranges may cause vibrations within the plant matter, speeding up or stimulating growth.
