very very good but where do you get thif device ?

Wait... Forgive my ignorance, but I thought a Jacob's Ladder needed air to work. Doesn't it move upwards because heated air?

I noticed that the spark appears thicker on one end, and that this effect changes with polarity. Does this thicker spark occur on the positive (anode) side, or the negative (cathode) side? Thanks.

The tube shows whether the voltage source provides an AC or DC current. When the tube is connected to an induction coil, the discharge starts were the distance between the wires is smallest, and runs up the wires like a Jacobs ladder. The visible light differs between cathode and anode the cathode light is a stripe, the anode light a point. If the current is alternating, the wires each will show alternating stripes and points, since they are both cathode and anode.

Good point! I should have titled the video "Jacobs Ladder in a partial vacuum". The partial vacuum allows a discharge to form more easily than at atmospheric pressure whilst there are still enough molecules to heat up and create the convection to make the discharge travel upwards.
