It's 20 years since Neil Young and Crazy Horse's incendiary "Smell The Horse" tour of the USA, as documented on "Weld". Here's a phenomenal song that didn't make the cut - an electric version of "Campaigner", recorded at the Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo, NY, on February 16th, 1991.
Every once in a while Neil will pour out an electric version of some gem. This is one of them.

Hm...this song is very interesting in electric form. It's like something you would find in the slowcore movement of the 90s. I still much prefer it in it's folk acoustic form though.

I think this is one of Neil's best songs - whether electric or acoustic, he puts everything into it that he has. Neil is *such* a strange musical idol - I really hate a lot of his stuff, but the stuff he does well, I passionately love-unto the death. He's such an iconic figure. He managed to outlive his hippy persona and lasts as a strange voice for the left, that despises where he's come from. God bless ya, Neil, and may you write many, many more strange songs for us to ponder on.
