@distracteddispatches I am training as a supervisor at Superstore, and I'd like to point out they do have people to collect carts. The fact of the matter is, people like stealing carts. Our parking lot is littered in carts from everywhere that doesn't do the coin thing (Safeway, Zellers, Sears, Giant Tiger.......), so I guess the people in charge of deciding things like cart coins said "Damn! Don't wanna be those suckers!"

@DeffingLeppard Sorry, I never got any tips either, I was just pissed off about people who get tipped in other places when I wrote that comment lol

That still doesn't solve the problem of people leaving with the shopping.
And are you really that burdened by having to put your cart back where you got it? Or are you that lazy....
OR is it the financial hardship of having to have a loonie on you when you need a cart?

every grocery store I have been to has those. Crackheads always stealing them!

$1?! Wow, I remember when it used to be 25 cents. My brother and I would make a killing scouring the parking lot for carts left by people wou couldn't be bothered bringing them back to the front door. I do the same thing at Food Basics now. Paid for a letter I had to mail in a few minutes by grabbing carts in the lot. :)

@DeffingLeppard I'm not supposed to keep the change I find either, but my supervisor is awesome that way lol

@distracteddispatches You will mostly find these types of carts in areas with high crime and homeless rates. The carts cost over $100, and homeless people like to steal them. You will usually find these types of carts in urban stores in major cities.
@lemonrind really? I've lived in a bunch of urban centers in the US and Canada and never seenthis anywhere else. Can you give an example? Homeless people are everywhere anyway. You really think a loony is going to prevent them from obtaining a shopping cart?

@distracteddispatches
More people return there cart to the proper place when there is a loonie involved. Less abandoned carts in the middle of the parking lot, less of them in the aisles, and less of them brought to peoples front door who do not own a car. As annoying as it is, it shouldn't be hard to understand why it was implemented.

@Shawnruss Or you could hire someone to move the carts for you like most grocery stores do, instead of placing the burden on the consumer. Of course, I understand why the loonie thing was implemented. That doesn't make it any less lame.
