Clogged exhaust problem, Mazda 323 / Protege

Popcorn anyone?

Catalytic converter fell apart due to misfiring caused by bad ignition coil, and pieces of catalytic converter ended up in the muffler, completely blocking the exhaust gases while engine is idling. You can hear gas escaping back to intake during short period of valve overlap. Bad for the engine!

Problem was in the clogged rear muffler... Thats replaced and it purrs like a kitten now :)

Yes it does, and they are quite strict. But you could sneak your way around with some cash, and by having an insider :)) But that would not be the option for this car, it has 2 O2 sensors, one before and one after the cat, so it would require some tampering with ECU, and mostly mom drives this so stock is just fine :)) I will replace midpipe and muffler these days so it should be ok, and hopefully not do any damage to the engine... Yeah, I like it cat-free :) Exhaust fumes <3 :)))

Does Croatia have emissions test that your car must pass? If not than have you considered completely gutting the cat? Or does your engine require that back pressure to run correctly. Also it would depend on the location of the 02 sensor. I miss the old days when you could alter exhaust any way you wanted and it wasn't illegal
