So, at 3 AM the Chicago River began to flow over the edge of the embankment by our building. Within 15-20 minutes, the whole drive was flooded with 3-4FT of water. Some poor guy parked his convertible under the building next to the Marina (which is also partially under the building), and his car was almost completely submerged.

Our power went out, so no elevator access, and the card readers were dead too. We had to find someone on the inside to open one of the emergency exit doors to let us all in. (About 20 people were down in the lobby looking at the flood and some came home from their Friday night escapades).

  • @wilborne1,

Did your unit get water damage? I know some units on 15 get water at times, but the flood itself wouldn't effect any single unit.

  • my unit didnt suffer any damage.

  • what i know is that i had a roof over my head, and i have had to be displaced for x time without warning, in unpleasant conditions, because a building OVER THE RIVER is not equipped to protect its residents against SIMPLE RAIN. that was not KATRINA, for god's sake! i want to know if anyone in this building is filing a lawsuit, because i want to participate in a class action.

  • i live there too, and have had to be displaced since july 24th. i am beyond outraged by the situation, since i have no family no nothing in here. a security guy in the building told me the city is responsible for the disaster because they forgot to lift the flood gate..? i asked the management office, and they said they are not sure yet what caused all of that.

  • No actual condo units got flooded directly from the river breach. River City was likely initially evacuated due to a HAZNET situation due to water with oil, gas, diesel, chemicals, and Chlorine based chemicals from associated with the Bally pool. Later, we could not get back in due to lack of electrical. Lack of electrical was due to the infinite wisdom of placing all electrical equipment in the most sub level of River City like there is no above ground space for such hardware. Phones too!

  • I live here and I'm currently displaced to my girlfriend's studio. Residents are now learning that the earliest we can move back is 10 days from Wednesday. The residents are only allowed 10 minutes to gather thier belonging on a guided tour through the building with police escort. Referred to as luxury condos, but the hallway ceilings leak every time it rains and the American flag on the roof is torn to shreds. Residents will soon find out that home-owners insurance does not cover flood damages.

  • What the Cappleflood!
