Amazon Tribes of the Xingu

To the music of KT Tunstall's 'Because the Night', this video visits the Kayapó community of Baú, learning of the threats from deforestation and climate change. But this community produce babassu oil for export to Europe, giving them enough income for their modest needs.

Our involvement is strictly at the request of the community, and what they are doing is the best available option for them, given that they are experiencing increasing contact with the dominant culture. However I accept the argument that they would have been better off if it had been the Europeans who suffered the loss of 90% or more of their population to disease. Unfortunately we have to live with the world as it exists.

@TribesAlive Thank youfor your reply. You can only get a small perspctive of life from a video. I have always thought it must be a great experience to actually get to spend some time with the different peoples of these countries. I think you are right, contact with the outside world does bring change and it would seem that someone needs to be there to see that these people's way of life doesnt get completely distroyed.
