This song has got me through most of the hard times in my life, and yes, it is the greatest song of all time. After my dad died I took up playing the guitar in honor of him.

I read that on Guitar Hero 2, when Freebird is selected, the player is asked repeatedly "Are you sure you want to play Freebird" :-D That is extremely cool! Is this true? I've never played Guitar Hero.

In 1964, Ronnie, Bob Burns and Gary Rossington formed a band with Allen Collins and Larry Junstrom called "The Noble Five". In 1965, the band that was to become "Lynyrd Skynyrd" was formed in Jacksonville, FL. The band was called "My Backyard". It was later changed to "Lynyrd Skynyrd" after the guys high school gym teacher, Leonard Skinner who disliked male students with longhair. The bands name has always been spelled that way, it wasn't re-spelled in tribute to the "Byrds".
