There really isn't anything to say , some people have the guts to stand out while others don't. It's really that simple. You don't need an excuse or anything. Sikhism is all about letting go of the materialistic things in this world. Many of us, including sikh women associate handsome men with cut hair and clean shaven. It's nothing to do with modernity because a sardar can still be modern and keep the faith. It's all about your soch (thinking).

Aslong as you know your Sikh and are proud that is all that matters. You talk about the ones who cut there hair and stuff what about the ones who do wear paghs but shave there beards?? you dont say nothin about them. why coz they wear paghs?? I agree that Pagh sikhan di shaan ya but most of them paghwale drink n smoke. You ever take that into account. NO!! Coz all you man can do is talk about the Sikhs who cut there hair and how we disrespecting our religion. I'm proud to say am a SIKH FOR LIFE!
