aircraft converted to F-6D-25NT the tactical reconnaissance version having vertical and oblique camera positions in the rear fuselage. Additional radios were

installed to include D/F equipment. The conversion still allowed full armament carrying capabilities.

From Dallas, the aircraft was delivered to the USAAF on June 23, 1945 to the 4136th AAF Base Unit (Air Technical Service Command), Tinker AAF, OK., and from there

to the Oklahoma City Air Material Area, Tinker AFB (storage). June 11, 1948 the aircraft was re-designated: RF-51D-25NT under the new designation system. In

December 1950 the aircraft was moved to the San Antonio Air Material Area, Kelly AFB, TX. June 1951 the aircraft was moved to the Sacramento Air Material Area,

McClellan AFB, CA in preparation for shipment to the 601st Aircraft Repair Squadron (Far East Air Forces), Kisarazu AB, Japan in August 1951. From the post-storage

repairs, and readied for combat duty in the Korean War, the aircraft was assigned to the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing (TRW), flying in the 45th Tactical

Reconnaissance Squadron (TRS), Kimpo AB, Korea from November 1951 until February 1953.

Following the Korean War, the aircraft was moved first to the 6408th Maintenance Support Group, Kisarazu AB, Japan in February 1953, and then back to the United

States to the Sacramento Air Material Area, McClellan AFB, CA in May 1953. In November 1953 the post war assignment was to the 153rd TRS (Air National Guard), Key

Field, Meridian, MS.

January 1956 the aircraft was moved back to the Sacramento Air Material Area, McClellan AFB, CA and dropped from inventory as surplus in May 1956. The aircraft was

re-designated: F-51D and sold out of surplus to Indonesia, to serve in the Indonesian Air Force.
Returning to the United States through a private purchase in 1978, the aircraft was registered with the Federal Aviation Administration as a civilian P-51D, flying

with the name Ghost Rider and a silver paint scheme until 1995. Purchased by Col. Frank Borman, the aircraft was restored to Korean War markings of the 44th

Fighter Squadron, Clark AFB, PI, 1952 a squadron in which Col. Frank Borman served during the Korean War. SU SU continues to fly proudly under the Korean War

markings of the 44th Fighter Squadron (65th Anniversary April 14, 1944 to April 14, 2009). Happy Anniversary SU SU.
