While attending the Ultimate Band Showcase at The Black Bear in Hartford last night off to the side of the stage in a dark corner was Nathan Brady Crain. At first I had no idea he was there until Ryan of Frank and the Beans pointed him out during one of the set changes. I was amazed by the fact that Nathan laid down the tracks while at the performance instead of prerecording them.

Since this is a little beyond the YouTube primary recording time of 4 minutes I was tempted to break it into two parts, but just couldn't. The first 3 minutes of the Video is Nathan putting down his tracks with a few guitars, a wood block etc... this took about 3 minutes, then on to the song. I have major musical geek jealousy here about some of the effects he achieved in some other songs I didn't record, but if you see this guy around go check him out, he also does comedy. Nathan also has original music and comedy albums that can be bought at his website.

This is the first person I've filmed in a solo situation and was pleased with the results, we used the Sigma LED light on this shot, which worked great. The ambient crowd noise you hear is because Nathan was actually positioned under a railing with another bar area above, plus the acoustics of the room tended to echo.

  • This guy is terrific!

  • Great stuff - really enjoyed it!

  • Cool as hell.

  • This is neat. I met someone before who ran his happy hour show like this and it's always fun to watch. Kinda like going to a hibachi restaurant and actually seeing how everything is put together before you enjoy it hehe.
