Flores is a tiny little boy, vocally speaking, compared to Vargas. Even in Rossini. Vargas is the best rossinian tenor I've ever heard.

@piasecznik My comment was in response to unfair and disparaging comments by some critics about how deficient and inferior today's singers are as compared to those in the past. The phrase "in any era" does not just refer to Rossini singing but,most importantly,the well-rounded ability of RV to superbly perform a wide range of operatic roles,which should put him in the rank of the very best "in any era".

Actually, I think that 'in any era' isn't a big addition for Rossini tenors. The only fach where we don't have to look back to the golden times- the Rossini tenors of the 90's and 2000's are better than they ever were before.

The way he sings this is a perfect example of why I was surprised to hear so MUCH fuss over Flores--who may have more stage charisma but cannot compete for sheer voice and musicality of performance.
