The weapon specialization class, the soldier. Trained to use all weapons and ammo types, they are the class that anyone who likes a shooter style gameplay should chose.

great game ME2, specializations make the game really different, i'm playing it the second time just to test them out :D

@xMATTSTERx well you can specialize about half way through the game and pick assault rifles if you want

The Widow Sniper Rifle with the soldier or infiltrator ownz anything!

About Vanguards and assault rifles (spoilers):
In ME2, Vanguards can receive assault rifle training when you get on the Collector's ship the first time.
You can choose between an unique special shotgun or assault rifle training, which automatically gives you an assault rifle and of course the ability to use it.

Kind of. You can level up the soldier class with points, then choose a specialization when it gets to a certain level. Also, about half way through the game, u can add a weapon specialization.
