Land in Focus presented A Day of Contemporary Arab Culture, July 16th 2011 at Rich Mix, London. This event was part of Shubbak, London's first ever celebration of contemporary culture from across the Arab world, presented by the Mayor of London and sponsored by HSBC.
The 12-hour festival-within-a-festival comprised an unprecedented film programme in the UK with 24 multi award-winning films from across the Middle East and North Africa, percussion workshops for children, talks, an art exhibition presented by Mica Gallery, and a very special live performance.
The highlight of the day was at 19.30, with the world first retrospective of the films of Mahmoud Kaabour, followed by a live performance by oud player Khyam Allami and percussionist Vasilis Sarikis.
A Day of Contemporary Arab Culture was a very informative and entertaining event that broke down stereotypes and promoted a deep and rounded understanding of the Arab world.
