Cast System Exists in every Country Today, The Soldiers = Warriors, the generals; The Intellectuals = The Scientists, The Engineers, Artists; The Traders = Business Men, Middle Men , Sales Men. The Working Class = Artisans, Plumbers, Builders , Cleaners, The Core idea of the cast System included Transfer of Skills from one generation to another which ensured minimal skill loss and continues improvement generation on Generation.

Real executive power has always been in he hands of the ruling class or the mercantile class, on account of possessing material wealth. The Brahmanas are fortunate when they get the patronage of a king or a rich merchant, because they are supposed to learn and teach knowledge without demanding wealth. They had to survive on the voluntary donations of kings or rich people. Even in the Rigveda, the rishi Kanva praises the donation of a wealthy man Dasa Balbutha, obviously a non-Brahmana.

All sources of information and all academics point to the fact that the caste system began as a system for economic and social convenience, where everyone was equal. See, for example, that there are many hymns in the Vedas attributed to Shudra rishis, and the stories in the Mbh depicting a Shudra butcher teaching wisdom to a Brahmana.

It is an amazingly complex construct of social engineering, sumptuary laws, eugenics, skill sets and political powers. A few privileged academics (analogous to modern day tenured professors) have hoisted the deadweight of caste for four millenia on India's civilisation.
