Central European University was the principal host for this year's 17th annual Hungarian Political Science Association conference in Budapest, Hungary.
As part of the opening program, political scientist Andrew Moravcsik of Princeton University gave the first of two keynote addresses regarding democracy and the so-called "democratic deficit" in the European Union.
He was followed by Philippe Schmitter of the European University Institute -- you can hear his contrasting remarks at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuA0wgvRY5g.

Why doesn't he define 'constitutional democracy'? If the world is inter-dependent, why aren't constitutions? Why aren't people? Why must 'information flow' be controlled? Why doesn't he also talk about perceptions.. I mean if the majority of people are ignorant of what the European Union does, why wouldn't questionnaires of those very same 'people' reveal anything but 'mis-perceptions', rather than the status quo. Indeed, this would place the status quo of the EU in error..
