Building Kiln Floor

This is the final preparation of the floor base with fireclay and setting the high heat duty firebrick pitched and dry to make the floor of this new woodfired pottery kiln. Quite a bit more has been completed with the chimney and back walls defined. Stay tuned 'cause it will freeze soon and more work will have to wait till warm days.

He was found trotting down the highway somewhere near S.F. and the people who found him came over to the U.P. but needed a home for Olof so I rescued him. I like to think he escaped the fight scene and has powers of his own we can't imagine but he was probably abandoned.

Well I might not know much about that New Age stuff but I am familiar with the age old stuff. I wonder what's goin on with my Saturn, eh?

This fire clay is Holmes in Ohio and I got it at the brick yard in Iron Mountain. Masons use it to lag in hard brick liners for wood stoves and Maple syrup boiler fireboxes. Some lumber companies might have a few sacks around with a few hard bricks but your best bet for quantity is a local brick yard. For clay bodies I'd search ceramic materials suppliers for a variety of other materials and you can add local rocks and minerals for glaze.
