This is the first of a two part tutorial explaining how you can control your Mac through the use of speech - utilizing the built in Speech Recognition feature known as Speakable Items.

The second part of this tutorial will explain how you can create your own custom speech commands to perform more intricate functions within specific applications.

  • mine doesn't work :(, my mic is fine cause i tested it on skype, but it just WONT recognise the command :(

  • @tomeglenn I ReAlly need your help, i just bought the new macPro 15 i7 , and i tried using Speech Recongition using both the internal mic and Nokia bluetooth headset, which both of them work perfectly on programms like Skype when i try using the speech commands the bubble on only detects the volume to be in the blue (low) zone ,even when i set the Mic volume and Calibration on highest PLZZ reply ASAP , regards

  • @darkfang5820 Yup, highlight the text you want it to speak, then right click and select start speaking.
