  • Why get rid of the back seat and leave the cargo area? Why not take up the whole cargo area and use the back seat for groceries and all those things you were talking about?

  • A couple of reasons. First and foremost is weight distribution. If we put all the batteries in the cargo area, the nose of the car would point UP and we want it to point OUT in front of us.

    Second, it's easier to put groceries in through the back door. Not so easy through the side door. It's a 2 1/2 door car.

  • The J1772 has a much longer history (before 1999). The current 2001 standard is based on the AVCON unit.  But since the vehicles were taken of the road it became a moot point.
