The three oscillators of the Alesis ION can be shaped differently.

- Sine: changing the shape brings more harmonics to the sound.

- Triangle: can be shaped to a sawtooth wave or a reversed sawtooth.

- Square: in this case changing the shape actually means changing the pulse width.

  • The Microkorg's engine is also great. It's not as versatile as the Ion/Micron, but it's still got a great unique sound. Look at some sound demos of the Korg MS2000. The interface of the Micron is much better than the Microkorg's, but the Microkorg responds to standard MIDI CCs, so it can be controlled with just about any surface with a MIDI learn function, at the cost of stepping. The Micron uses MIDI NRPNs, which lowers the amount of stepping, but it cannot be controlled by most surfaces.

  • Sweet, I got ripped off with the Micron, lacks toooo many controls at the expense of reverb :(

Same seems to have happened with the MicroKorg.

Enjoy! while I dig through ebay for an Ion XD

  • Yeah I got one ages ago for $AU1000

  • Did u manage to get one? If so how much? Coz they cost like £600-£1000 now.

  • Thanks for the demos! I'm getting one before the price goes up. :-)

  • LOL! Yeah, Micros suck

  • good choice

  • wao dude! I love this trademark cause of his sound, now I`m going to get a micron instead of a microkorg!
