The first tutorial can be found here: http://bit.ly/bQzl6d . You will need this tutorial if you are unfamiliar with WordPress 3.0's new multisite feature

This tutorial can be found here: http://bit.ly/b6grvA

Wordpress 3.0 has merged WPMU with WP and now everyone that has a self hosted blog can make multiple websites. Many hosting providers offer multiple domain name hosting in the form of parking websites, but sometimes that is just not what you want.

Cheap hosting accounts, will usually only allow you to point domain names to your main domain, so you can't really run multiple websites. More expensive hosting accounts will allow you to park a domain, but it is usually not associated with any other websites on your host.

I like using WordPress to manage all the sites because all the websites in the WordPress install can share posts, comments, categories, etc... Not to mention, just being really easy to use WordPress

  • I could not get this to work and the link to the site is dead.

  • @veganpeacelove sorry, I took my blog down... Do you know what part is breaking?

    1. make sure your A record for the domain is set to the server.

    2. create a blog normally using subdomains

    3. make a new site in the sites table for the TLD

    4. rename the new blog subdomain to the TLD in the options table and make sure the site id is for the new site made in step 3

    5. I think that is it, you might need to add site_meta for the new site, but I think it will work without.

  • why not addon domains?

  • @JulesClay92 Sorry for the really late reply, but I think addon sites are for 2 totally independent website. Each in a different folder, therefore they have different codebases.

  • Your Blog Post's doesn't seem to be redirecting properly

  • @Bettahairdaze Thanks for telling me, I thought I fixed it...

Seems to only have the issue with FF... Chrome's working fine.

    Thanks again

  • Well the database changes worked for me, except for the part where my 2nd top level domain does not point to the 2nd wordpress blog i created in super admin.

Both top level domains are hosted in the same server. Wonder what is wrong about my setup.

  • confusing and un-informative

  • None of your links work. Will you fix or just leave them not working?

  • Matt...nice video - looks complicated but it is definitely interesting! However, when you change the names of the database as you did, wouldn't you have problems with serialization?
