A big problem is people thinking that it's us or them. Very, very few research experiments are for the benefit of people and cannot be done another way. For example product testing, chimps and monkeys have drain cleaner, bleach and other chemicals pumped into their stomachs to determine lethal doses. Lethal dosing can easily be done with rats.
