In this episode of Doug's Thoughts, we will discuss the Second Amendment of the US Contitution. We will ask questions like who wrote it, for who, and why. We will also define some of the wording used in this Amendment. Please feel free to email me at dougs.thoughts@yahoo.com or leave a comment here.

  • Wouldnt the wireless program be a breach of your rights? How could a computer tracking system ever really know the circumstances of your choosing to use a weapon? Self defense would still have to be proved, and they would know every time it goes off, kinda sounds like Big Brother! How could you support something like that and want to get rid of registration?

  • Most pro-gun control advocates believe the word "regulated" equates to "control the firearms". The dictionary you used actually supports that. So, I suggest you define "regulated" in the parlance of the time period. "Well Regulated" at that time would be like saying, "accurate" or "reliable". "A regulated clock would keep correct time".

So, "A well regulated milita" is referencing a "practiced, efficient, or well prepared group of citizens". Supporting the individual right argument.

  • The word regulated refers only to a militia, it has nothing to do with firearms! Look at the context and sentence structure!

  • Prove it! I did a lot of research to find some of his quotes.

  • Exactly, that's why I mentioned that the sentence, "A well regulated militia" is analagous to "A practiced group of citizens". The whole notion that "regulated" infers to regulate the firearms is bunk, absurd, and downright wrong.

It's tough to say it all in such a short post, but my intent was to point out that the 2A infers an INDIVIDUAL RIGHT, not a "collective right" that so many anit-gun folks like to charge.

BTW, I think you did a good job on the vid.

  • "A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves...and include all men capable of bearing arms." 1788 (Federal Farmer, p.169) RICHARD HENRY LEE

Learn your History people. The Bill of Rights are Individual Liberties. There you go. All you need to know. TRY TO TAKE GUNS AND you will have a riot like never before.

  • @ToothbrushMan “STATE” refers to a country. We are the "United States" 13 independent colonies fought for freedom and then voted as independent colonies or countries or states to Unite in one union, The United States. 2nd example. “The Secretary of State” does he or she represents one of the 50th state or the country? This is not a debate it’s a fact, State means Country!

  • Doug, You hit the nail right on the head. Keep up the great work and maybe, just maybe you will educate a few dumb liberals.

Nope. "State" in the 2A refers to the society, the country. It does not refer to the "state of being free".

To say "the security of a free state" when using your definition of state sounds really odd.

  • Protect from any power that interrupts life and liberty. State refers to the state of being free. The people as in "we the people"

  • @Trebor998

    Er. Not really.

  • @Trebor998

England is just one of the states that make up Britain. Calling Britain "England" is like calling the US "Connecticut".

You are correct when you say that the 2A is about having a readily armed militia with with to defend the free state from a foreign power. This is how I interpret the 2A. [Note that "state" in the 2A refers to the US as a country - the government and the people.]

But your statement was "to protect you and I from OUR government".

  • @ToothbrushMan-

"Man learns from history that man does not learn from history."

--It takes more faith FOR ME to believe a fish walked up on shore and became what we are today than to believe there is a God whom created all things in Heaven and on Earth.

    Must we continue this....?
