@hasablad69 i agree with you.bond should be directed seriously.like the books.to treat the character otherwise is to be disrespectful of what fleming worked for..not that bond is a holy icon,no,but the books r well written, and dont joke around with the character.now a sense of humor is allowed of course.but hamilton, goofed up bond,on one hand and also gave the movie a rich atmosphere.

@hasablad69 Guy Hamilton had nothing to do with Jaws I or II, that was Lewis Gilbert.

How dare you insult the master Guy Hamilton. He is my favorite Bond director. He is quoted as saying "Bond is fantasy" and he is right. He knew how seriously to take the character. Some directors like Marc Forster (and Martin Campbell with CR) take Bond too seriously while Lee Tamahori did not take Bond seriously enough with DAD. The only time Guy wasn't serious enough was DAF, which is still a guilty pleasure for me!

I respect that opinion but I would suggest that the villains didn't become truly goofy - unbelieveable, cartoon charicatures - until Guy ("a laugh a minute") Hamilton got his corroding, slimy fingers back on board. Then we had Charles Grey as Blofeld with Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd, the Live And Let Die cast of clowns, and Herve Villechese as Knick Knack, which led to Jaws I and Jaws II. I think that Telly Savalas was the best Blofeld with Donald Pleasance, slightly cartoony, coming in second.
