In 2009, the Swiss voted in a referendum to ban the building of minarets as part of mosques. Was this the right thing to do? A Muslim shares his views on the issue.

  • That was an intelligent answer, in a calm, self-confident way. All tribute for that ! Would be great if all muslims reacted so civilized and adult. Then, surely Islam would be more respected.

  • People elcected, democratically, to ban minarets. Whatever the motivation for each individual who participated in the process of approving the banning of minarets the final outcome was chosen by the people, for the people. That means it was not government imposed. The banning of minarets is not an attack on islam, the banning of mosques or the banning of islam itself would be an attack on islam, this was people chosing how their nation progresses.

  • We are Muslims who believe in the Messiah...we condemn all acts of terrorism and all acts of violence. Learn something about Ahmadi Muslims before you go grouping us with other Muslims who commit horrible acts. They do not represent true Islam, True Islam is peace loving and tolerant of all other religions.

  • @McUniStudent I haven't seen any beauty in Islam. I've only seen ugly, evil things in Islam: beheadings, rape, terrorism, beatings, whippings, chopping off hands, intolerance, extreme revenge, grudges, etc. What beauty are you talking about?

  • I've seen nothing but extreme intolerance and evil behavior from muslims, so it makes me laugh when they complain about the Swiss law. Muslims don't tolerate the existence of Israel. Stop the terrorism before you talk about tolerance.

  • Messiahfilms@

Are you serious? Prove you're so tolerant and you REALLY want peace.

Let your sister or daughter marry a non-muslim man and let her revert to Christianity (You know all about it. Jesus the Son of God! Not just one of the prophets).

But before that day, excuse us, youre not believable.

  • And to go so far as to BAN the building of minarets? Islam is a beautiful religion whose peaceful nature has been tarnished by the horrid actions of a few. A government is supposed to act for the good of ALL its people--and yet, here the Swiss government is doing the exact opposite.

We all have different beliefs and perspectives- what fun would the world be if we didn't? AND- while we may not believe or support another's beliefs, we should respect them and seek to understand them-not ban them.

  • I personally disagree with the decision of the Swiss government to ban the the building of the minaret. The Swiss government needs to look out for all its people, not show bias against a particular group. And minarets are harmless--they are a symbol of peace and hope--yes, their original purpose was to call Muslims for prayer, similar to church bells calling the faithful to church on Sunday. Now they are simply a beautiful architectural piece...a symbol, a reminder of the past.

  • How foolish of me, accept my apologies.

    Good night madam.

  • Sir!!!?

    I'm a girl !!!

    *_*

    Take care.
