Finally ! A good experimental electronic album to soothe my pretentious nerves !!!

Klaus Schulze first solo album was released in 1972 on Thunderbolt Records. It includes 3 twenty minute plus tracks and one 5 minute one.

The compositions are mainly improv; in every sense of the word. Improvised recording, improvised sounds, improvised instruments. The whole nine yards.

This album is as majestic in sound as it is playful. Lots of sustained notes and slow chord progressions, cool space sounds, all kinds of reverb and echo. Pretty sublime stuff from one of the founders of electronic music.

A must listen for fans of experimental / space / ambient / improv / electronic types of music.

4.7/5

  • "Irrlicht" (German: Will O' The Wisp) is by far one of my favorite records of all time. It is dark and moody cosmic music to me. The textures are strange and disturbing. I also like Klaus Schulze "Timewind" and "Cyborg" but "Irrlicht" remains my favorite by far. if you dig Klaus Schulze I strongly suggest you check out a band called Cosmic Jokers and the first three records by Ashra Tempel. Both feature Schulze.

  • Will do !! I've already heard some good stuff from Ashra Temple.

  • Also I want to add that his work Rheingold is supremely impressive and modern sounding with instruments over 20 years old, with Lisa Gerrard (Dead can Dance) and Gladiator Soundtrack. Also if you haven't already Mirage, Cyborg, Moondawn, Body Love (Which is a porn soundtrack) Blackdance and of course Timewind (which the world recognizes, especially the United States.) truly amazing work. I am glad you recently got into his work! Also he really is a nice guy, if you watch his dvd's and interview.

  • Porno soundtrack, eh ? Sweeeet !

  • Yeah Schulze is pretty awesome! I have like about 30 albums by him and they are all amazing! As far as pronouncing, don't worry. Like how you said Schulze, or I heard in a interview SchulTZE with a t or SchulZEE which I heard in one of the albums from the fans on his live concert. The alien cover is the artwork by Urs Amann, the covers change after the 70's period, but it is so beautiful and strange I love it. He said that he is experimental and he is looking for something new everytime.

  • Cool man. Thanks for the cover art info !

  • good cover :D !

  • Youre wrong I' m right huh ? Weird name for your channel . First off , there was no Thunderbolt Records in '71 . It was originally released on Ohr . Some copies distributed to different countries were quadrophonic recordings .

Anyway if you like Schulze then you have good taste in music !

You might want to try some LSD , mushrooms , good weed..hash , and good alcohol ( seperately or all together ) and listen to him introspectively , alone with headphones , as Schulze has partook of these .

  • The name of the band that he played drums for and quit was Ash Ra Tempel. The first album -- the only one that he played on, save for a later album entitled "Join Inn" -- is HIGHLY recommended.

  • Very good album (I have the orginal LP).

Btw the correct pronunciation is Schulz-ah! or Schultz-er! I'd recommend that you checkout Tangerine Dream's double album Zeit ('time') released at the same time as Irrlicht (Klaus was in TD for 8 months btw, 1969 to early 1970), plus one month in 1973 when he replaced one member of the group for a short tour they did in France

  • oh yes Klaus Schulze is the electronic god, some his best IMO is Timewind, Moondawn and Mirage.

  • Yes, Body Love volume 1 picture is with a mask of a lady. When you listen to it you would not notice that it is a porn soundtrack, I sure didn't. I think Body Love is my personal all time favorite ever by him. Also there is a Body Love Volume II which if you are a collector might as well get as well.
