www.throughmyeyes.org.uk. In June 1947, leaders of the Congress Party and the Muslim League agreed that India would be divided along religious lines. Disputes over certain parts of the subcontinent have continued beyond 1947. Control over the province of Kashmir, led to two conflicts between India and Pakistan. In 1971, another conflict broke out when India supported the secession of Bangladesh (East Pakistan) from Pakistan. For many people, particularly those from the Punjab, the social and economic disruption caused by the Partition drove them to leave the subcontinent for Britain. Some had family who served in the British Army and for others, earlier patterns of migration meant that they had relatives already living in Britain. This film clip is from The Changing East India Part 1 and shows Lord Mountbatten talking with Indian politicians.

This clip is taken from the Imperial War Museum's new online exhibition - 'Through My Eyes: Stories of conflict, belonging and identity.' The site can be accessed on www.throughmyeyes.org.uk. Read this and other stories in full (Film copyright of IWM Ref: MGH_6250, all rights reserved)

  • Britain should never have raped, occupied and ruled India in the first place, let alone any country. She is still a racist cancerous tumor to every nation, race, colour and religion to all her colonies and her ethnic-minorties in Britain as well and still secretly rules their colonies and she hates Ireland as well.

  • actually this stuff is well documented

he used 2 cheat on Edwina with women and men

their daughter also confirmed that Edwina was having an affair with Nehru

  • @2009mrdyslexia I think you'll actually find that Mountbatten was charged with getting Britain out of India.

  • @dinyar65 Lord Mountbatten was racist, because he was British and hated India. How can you still love a man who recked your country?

  • nehru and mountbatton planning on how to make pakistan fail

  • @LadyMountbatten Hey, I'm not comparing him with hitler. I'm just asking you.. It doesn't mean I'm comparing mountbatten with hitler. I don't know if you're Indian, but if you're I'm surprised by your comments....

  • @91Sheetal Of course not, what a question... To compare him with Hitler is rubbish...

  • @91Sheetal Read (unbiased) history books.

  • @dinyar65 Fine, tell me atleast one good character of Mountbatten. What makes you think he was good? What are the things, you think the present generation must know about him?
