@bilgebayraktar Let's also not forget Britain's part. The British tried to maintain colonial rule over Cyprus by polarizing Greeks and Turks against each other. Often they favored Turkish Cypriots (more political power) to weaken the much larger Greek Cypriot community. It is no wonder to me that when the Cypriots decided to break ties with Britain (removal British Naval Base), the Turks got the green light to invade Cyprus. They were afraid that Cyprus would become communist.

@bilgebayraktar The way I see it, it was the right-wing terrorist Greek EOKA-B which committed a coup and hijacked Cyprus, killing both Greek (left-wing) and Turkish Cypriots. In response Turkey (fundamentalist party in government) invaded Cyprus and also committed crimes against humanity. Cypriots, Greeks and Turks, had always been a progressive well educated people but after 1974 both sides became more and more nationalistic and fundamentalistic. It's good they are uniting now.

A Turkish song about the injustice of being like an immigrant in your own land... this is not looking down on immigrants, more perhaps talking about ethnic cleansing such as has happened in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus and continues to happen all over the world!!
