I'm posting this video for my father's close buddy, Steve Troth, from a previously recorded talk they had in 2005. Dad has been gone for awhile and Steve is failing very fast now. I want to honor him this way while he is still here to see it. The few remaining WW2 veterans that are still alive today are precious living history. Steve was the captain of one of the ships that sailed with General Douglas MacArthur to the Phillipines. I wanted to record a new video of him telling about this, for Veteran's Day, but he was not well enough. He says he will try to do this in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we can all wish him well on this day of remembering. Please take a few moments to leave a comment for Steve.

  • It's clear how much you love your father, Becky, and it sounds like he is a wonderful father. The tears are still wet on my face after reading your posts. (hugs) :) Ginger

  • Steve appreciates your comment, Tyler. We both think the veterans that you see would love being asked about their stories - especially by young people like you.

  • That was such an interesting story, can't wait to hear the rest of it. I love to hear these ww2 stories since my father was in the army in the philipines. He use to tell some good stories when I would ask him about the war. Steve has a gift for telling tales, I hope he will do more.

  • Thanks for watching, Cindy. It's nice that you got to hear some stories from your dad. I can probably get Steve to record some more when he's feeling better.

  • Dear Steve, Here's sending all my love and thanking you for sharing your story with us. You are a very special man and I could listen to you all day! Take Care of yourself and God Bless from Tess in Ireland.

  • Thank you so much, Tess. Steve loves your comment, and also getting email from Ireland. :)

  • he seems like a great man thanks for uploading this.

I always love hearing stories from vets.

Tell him i say thanks for fighting for us.

  • He is an ordinary man who has done extraordinary things when surrounded by what appeared to be unsurmountable adversity. Thank you for all that you have done for me, and for others. Yes, Poppa, you are a hero to them, but

  • The man who not only provided a home for his family but also a home for others as well. A singer, philosopher, gardner, cook; intelligent, sharp, and often good-humored; a storyteller, soldier, captain, lover of all Gods creatures, Stephen Troth is so much more than meets the eye.

  • The man who made sure I was included in every fishing trip (and thank goodness, always baited my hook!); The man who showed me the world, but couldn't save me from it; The man who made sure I was included in every game and

always left his door open for me to enter and stay as long as I wanted or sometimes needed too.

  • stephen Daniel Troth, and enlisted man of two nations, WWII Veteran and hero. But what people don't know is of the hero behind the hero. The man who sat by my bed during the days of my own holacaust holding my hand; The man who never turned his head, hand, or heart away from me when others did out of judgement, ignorance and fear. The man who

  • Ginger.. Careful, though.. Don't shock him.. :) :)

  • Thank you, Justin. It was a very nice day. :)

  • i just want to let you know that i appreciate everything that steve, your dad, and every other veteran have done for our country. at my place of employment, i see alot of veterand come in and i wonder what interesting stories they have but i am only 16, it would seem wierd to ask them.

  • Steve says you're welcome, David.

  • That brings a smile to Steve's face, Aliz. Thank you for watching.

  • Good luck with that, Kyle. Steve thanks you for watching and commenting!

  • Thanks, Eric. Steve is pleased that you enjoyed it.

  • Thank you for watching, Vern. It's very nice to have your feedback.

  • Thanks, Moosie. Steve says that he and Les learned later that they were only a few thousand feet apart sometimes during the war, but they never met. However, all of these soldiers, including your Dad, were joined in spirit.

  • Wonderful video Ginger, happy Veterans/Remembrance day :)

  • Steve sends a special thanks, Sam, to a fellow Aussie. :)
