Black Gay Men's Blog explores black gay men and depression, bipolar disorder and other mental health issues with Mental Health Advocate and author, Malcolm Varner. We touch on the stigma in the black community at large and the black gay community, as well as other areas of interest to black gay men, such as HIV and the correlation with depression/mental health illness, empathy among black gay men, dating and knowing it's okay to ask for help, self-medication with alcohol and other drugs, addiction, the stress of being black and gay, homophobia and much more.

I was just diagnosed with bipolar last month. I was earlier diagnosed with severe depression as well as ADD & ADHD with in the past 4 years. Yes, I'm gay and positive. Most of the time I feel like giving up. This interview has been helpful. Thank you.

I am glad this is on you tube. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder Type 2 and GAD in 2009. I am black and gay and have attempted suicide several times. I am an aspiring writer and currently in grad school.

I am black and having a hard time dealing with my sexuality; when I was 17, I told my father that I was depressed, and he told me that I was young, and that I have no reason to be depressed, and he walked out of the room.... Now I am 34 and I am in therapy.
