  • I get the idea of what you want to teach about topology, unfortunatly I was unable to replicate your work simply extruding, on some things I managed to pause to see your menu selections, but the moment I started extruding I got stuck, I tried to also use scale and move but still things looked really bad (Things started intersecting / crossing over), I'm a total noob, is there a simplfied version which explains whats being done a little more?

  • @CybrZr00 There are helpful tutorials (including one on topology and modeling) included in the Maya Documentation. You can find it by going to the "Help" menu and selecting "Tutorials." This will take you to the Maya documentation site where you can view the tutorials under "Getting Started with Maya 2012."

  • when i finish with the create polygon tool, i dont get a silouette.

  • @TreeLabllate Make sure you are in "shaded" mode by pressing "5" on your keyboard. If you're still having problems, reset the tool by selecting Mesh > Create Polygon > [] and clicking the reset button.

  • Lol I cant get past 5.30 because I cant work out how to delete the large side of the face... any help please?

  • @jdyesway You may be in "Center" selection mode. If there is a dot at the center of the face, you will need to click that and then delete it.

  • You move way too fast, don't explain 9/10 things your doing , talk too fast. Otherwise this video was pointless.

  • Your tutorial explained and demonstrated proper topology better than any book or tutorial I've watched so far. Thank you! I can't wait to watch the next one!

  • how to select face selection and then grow that selection upwards ?

  • Yeah when he starts the extruding bit I'm just a dead weight in the water. It starts off really well but then he speeds up. Isn't this a getting started tutorial? please give us an answer to what it is exactly you're doing when extruding.

  • after 6:00 i need help, it's going way too fast, can you explain me what tools you use, to do the mouth and stuff?

  • What I would like to know is why sometimes when I go to pull out the extrusion--sometimes the 3 axises I can pull change their directions. What I mean is sometimes it'll let me pull it out straight like how it was done in the video, and then at other times the 3 axises have changed their positions, thus no longer allowing me to pull it straight like done in the video.

  • @Quemaine1000 q-select, w-move, e-rotate, r-scale, and t-show manipulator tool. I hope that helps at least a little bit. It took me a bit to figure it out-in general. Had to watch it, pause, stop, start over, go back a lot--just to figure out what tools were even being used! XD

  • Can you please somehow show which keys you are clicking when you press things. Like try displaying the shortcut key on the screen so that beginners can know.

  • @IfhBiff I haven't watched this one yet, but a LOT of instructors do that. They'll click a million things while explaining one thing. You literally have to ignore what they are saying and just go through the video frame-by-frame in those cases. I find that Lynda.com has the best instructors because they really explain every step.

Again, my comment doesn't pertain here. I have not watched this video yet.

  • @CybrZr00 I've found that with some things like that, especially as a "noob," in-person classes may be best.

I took Maya a little in college and am learning via Digital Tutors now, but humans and topology are too complicated for me to do on my own. So anytime I'm stuck despite closely following a tutorial, either it's just not my skillset or I need in-person help. Best to you.

  • When you start to extrude the lips, you´re getting way too fast for a rookie like me and don´t explain how you do it :P

But all in all, very very well done

  • @MayaHowTos Thank you v.much!
