R.I.P. Gramma. And I hope you and Ricky eventually married. {Grammpa got so jealous when she talked about Ricky}. Hugs and Kisses way up high, as you told us to do, from your Grandkids ❤XOXO❤
Well Teeye1 glad you said "probably" as I understand that actually Fats Dominio was second only to Elvis - and never heard that "Ricky" opened for Elvis's shows in the 70's -
at any rate great Rock 'n Roll - what an era to have been there
On Bass is studio great Joe Osborn picking not fingering flat wound strings if it was recored in LA in the 60's most likely it was him Carol Kaye or Ray Pollman.
WONDER IF ANYONE KNOWS HIS SONG WRITTEN BY THE LATE GENE PITNEY. WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE RECORDS FROM MY PARENTS RECORD COLLECTION (ALONG WITH "CATHY'S CLOWN" BY THE EVERLEYS)z"ION WAS THE LATE GENE PITNEY WROTE THIS. RIP RICK YOU WERE ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGERS OF ALL TIME
There weren't 'light' strings on the market yet so James replaced the high-E & B strings with banjo strings. Also, he has always used fingerpicks on his ring & middle fingers to complement the standard pick aka plectrum.

...Funny that he's playing a Fender Jazzmaster in this vid instead of his usual Telecaster.
