Sunday morning, on top of Mt. Duval, in Pangnirtung, Nunavut. -30 degrees, dry, wind packed snow has a unique sound in the North.

  • This is the first time I've seen these comments. It's funny to me that my walking in snow video gets over 10 times the views that my bike riding in snow gets. The squeak is from me walking on the snow. I didn't have my helmet cam that day. I was taking stills with a Canon SD1000, and flipped it to movie mode to record the squeaking sound. At -35 to 40, car tires sound like they're squealing on the snow - well - they more squeak than squeal.

  • hey thanks for posting this. cheers.

and like i said, none of us were there, except 40belowbiker. now that i know it wasn't a helmet cam i agree, it's the snow. i don't know why everybody gets so hostile over it.

  • see 40bleowsbiker's comment...

    end of story.

  • this is pretty funny to me for some reason. But this sound seriously gives me a horrible feeling like grinding foil on your teeth.

  • ok...

  • wow you are ignorant aren't you? AGAIN, FOR ABOUT THE 5th TIME, MY CAMERA MADE EXACTLY THE SAME SOUND. so if you say that the noises are distinguishable, then you're pretty much saying it's the camera. i'm saying it could be either, none of us really know except 40belowbiker.

  • you know i can't see your message unless you reply to mine. and if you read my messages right, you would know that my camera made the same noise, and since this is youtube, and we're not all here in this video, none of us know for sure. some people have a helmet camera that makes funny noises, some people walk on squeaky snow. like i said, none of us were there, so we don't know for sure.

  • ok, maybe we're both wrong, and we're both right. it could be the snow AND the camera. in fact, it probably is. i have been on squeaky snow, but i was pretty young and i don't really remember how loud it was. all that i was saying was that my camera did the same thing, and big bear is southern california by the way.

  • supersnot, if you think that's a camera and not footsteps on snow, then you're a moron (that's a 5 letter word for imbecile).
