"Every 5 seconds a child dies of starvation.
Every 45 seconds someone is sold into slavery.
Since you started watching this, 2850 people were victims of a crime.
Since you started watching this, illegal drugs have generated $972,850.
But...
Every 15 seconds someone pledges to be drug free.
Every 25 seconds someone volunteers in their community.
Every second, 26 people learn their human rights.

Whether it's drug prevention or rehabilitation,
criminal reform, human rights activism or character building,
you've probably heard of some of these groups:
Foundation for a Drug Free World, Narconon, Criminon, United for Human Rights, Youth for Human Rights, The Way to Happiness, Applied Scholastics, CCHR.
And while they're each fully independent, what do they all have in common?
This group: Scientology.

1. Common Membership.
All of them are either founded, staffed or otherwise supported by Scientologists.
But look closer, and you'll also find Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, and those with no religious affiliation.
In fact, some 60% of those active in these groups are from other faiths.
Why?
Because each of these humanitarian groups is non-denominational, non-profit and non-discriminatory.
They work with thousands of schools, governments, businesses, law enforcement agencies and others in 150 countries.

2. Common Passion.
The driving purpose behind all these groups is simply to help.
Last year, their members volunteered more than 4.8 million hours to their communities: tutoring kids, rehabilitating inmates, delivering drug education lectures, promoting human rights, and so on.
They're recognized world over as some of the leading organizations in their respective fields.
Why?

3. Common Results.
The answer is in the numbers:
17,700,000 received drug education lectures.
3,400,000 people took a drug free pledge.
32,000 criminals and juveniles rehabilitated; 80% have never returned to jail.
131 new drug warnings.
125 new laws protecting patient rights.
30 public service announcements educating kids about human rights.
183,111 signatures collected in support of human rights.
2,750,000 reached weekly with human rights message.
36,000 students received one-on-one tutoring last year.
1.1 million tutoring hours volunteered last year.
45% academic improvements in tests last year.
Over half a billion people reached by each campaign.

No matter what religion, background or walk of life, those who work for the good of others are working for a cause thousands of years old.
Good will is not just a religious ideal; it's a human ideal.
The Church of Scientology is proud to support the selfless individuals who volunteer in the face of adversity, who give in times of economic strain, who dare to believe that no matter how hopeless, no matter how broken, no matter how lost, there is yet a glimmer of hope."
