@strkr1652 Yeah! No art form could advance with out a past. It's great to play an elder tune, especially when it sounds great! Maybe even change it up and make it a totally different tune. That's the joy of it.
@1WFE3 your right. but that's whats great about jazz, is it not? the element of change or spontainiousness (i dont know if thats a word) is what jazz is all about. i look at joshua redman, amazing player and a few of his tunes still have an old sense about them. but i completely agree with you. for the most part old jazz has dissapeared from new writing, but there are still some good artists out there that love playin classic stuff and thats fun too.
@strkr1652 Another thing. I do think it is very important for jazz musicians to play elder music and standards but when all you play is elder music and standards then you are not fully expressing yourself. you need modern jazz music to fully express yourself because that's what the art is all about.
@strkr1652 The perfect example of a modern big band has to be Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. These are all elder men playing modern jazz. They're not like all those other elder men who played the same stuff from 50 years ago. I hope this helped i know it was a lot but I have strong feelings about all this.
@strkr1652 The people who say that are wrong, its just miles was moving with the times. So This is why I felt how I did when Brown called jazz the CLASSICAL American art form. cause really, it's not. I just feel like band this good need to be expressing themselves with more modern music that speaks for the era they are living in now. I like big bands a lot.

@strkr1652 Note: Sorry when ever I wrote, "human solo" I meant to write "human soul." Sorry.
