The web has become home to lots of strange claims and outlandish charges, all part of free speech. But some of the people affected by these cyber writings have tried to stifle this new form of expression on the internet. This program looks at several controversial stories which have led to censorship attempts. Topics covered include the Church of Scientology and its efforts to stop online stories critical of the church; the battle between McDonalds and mcspotlight.org, a site critical of McDonalds; and annoy.com, a site that tries to push the limits of online expression. Shot on location at the CyberSmith internet cafe in Palo Alto, California. Hosts are Andrew deVries and Stewart Cheifet. Originally broadcast in 1997.
