  • hey scotty, i got a 2001 cougar V6 and every now and again the idle will bounce when its in park. is this something to worry about at all?

  • @hemicud4 Na, typical for an old ford like that, just check for rotten vacuum lines under the hood.

  • I do have an older car. A 1987 Nissan Laurel 2.0 gasoline. When I am in neutral (it's a manual), and the engine is idling at the correct RPM and I push the throttle a little, and rev the engine, it takes a really long time to go down to the RPM where it should idle.

Got any idea why that is? I've driven other manual cars (an automatics), and mine is the first I've noticed that takes so long to fall back to its idling RPM.

  • @SpeedFreakNO hey, you're not supposed to revv it up like that anyway, serves no purpose. If it runs fine otherwise, leave it alone. If not, remove the throttle assembly, take it part, and clean out every single hole and make sure the throttle plate is shiny clean so it doesn't stick

  • How can you see to do your work with those dark sun glasses you always wear?

  • @thhall459 it's bright here in Houston. And I'm getting old, the eye Doc says stay away from UV rays.

  • @sarathcpt they can make a LOT of money selling you one when it breaks. Basically, they want everything controlled by computers, that's the reason.

  • @parrowman yea, and I hate that trac crap. Makes working on them a pain, and really, if you can't drive a car, trac isn't going to save you or the people you hit.

  • @Duratec86 My thoughts exactly...something tells me that a Prius wouldn't allow you to shift to Neutral with the throttle stuck open in Drive.

  • @Hypnotisk Lightweight flywheel is good. They may also make a lightweight pully set for it. My buddy got a set for his 300ZX and he said it felt like gaining 10 HP. Naturally they don't add horse power they just free up what you already have.

  • @scottykilmer Pfft. Getting old. You look fit as hell. And young too! :)

  • I absolutely hate those new electronic pedals, one of the reasons being that they have little to no resistance when you push on them.
