When the owner of this Mini Coop lost his power steering, he pulled off Hwy 101 in San Jose and into our street where his vehicle promptly caught on fire. Not only did it explode spectacularly, it also set the palm trees in front of our house on fire and nearly caused the house and surrounding field to be set ablaze. Caveat emptor to all those who'd buy these cars.

  • I loved my Cooper but do not miss the problems. I had a 2003 MC and my transmission went just out of warranty at 56,000. Second went at 116,000. Also electrical problems. Driving a 2011 VW GTI now and loving it.

  • I do not know what the interior of a Mini Cooper consists of, but I have seen the effects of water on burning magnesium. Dangerous fires to fight.

  • @tonyringtail Finally, someone that knows what they are talking about.

  • My Mini Cooper S R53 caught fire in 2010. I called BMW North America and they literally told me 'sorry, we know nothing about spontaneous engine fires". It's the power steering pump that shorts

  • My cooper R56 Caught on fire in Florida today. No clue as to what happen.

  • @MartyTate76 Actually, he was a lieutenant in the air force that lives in Grass Valley. He was stationed in Tennessee for awhile. He spent all day in Carmel surfing and was driving back home that niight. His surfboard was mounted on the roof and it practically incinerated into thin air.

  • @sjfdmicp They are brave men. Now, I know they're just doing their thing.. but still.

  • That is the crew from Engine # 18 A shift . San Jose Fire Department.

  • u should put a sign in front of the house saying "No burning cars"

  • those explosions aren't from fireworks... they're from the magnesium thats in some of the components of the car. it'll literally explode when water is put on it.
