Certe volte la Gruberova mi lascia perplesso, ma qui è semplicemente sbalorditiva, e anche il suo solito delirante manierismo è tenuto sotto controllo. Beatrice è sempre stato il ruolo belliniano più adatto alla sua espressività e alla sua vocalità! Bravissima!

Cristo santo, che lagna... Al confronto, la Sutherland e l'Alliberti sembrano due scoppiettanti majorettes. La voce c'è, per carità, ma quanto le piace cantarsi addosso... Talmente tanto che passano in cavalleria le stonature (tipo quella ai 6:47) e gli urlacci conclusivi, e tutto ciò nonostante le ampie reti di sicurezza che il direttore le stende tutt'intorno. Si fatica a credere che sia stata la grande cantante mozartiana che è stata. Santa Mariella, protettrice del belcanto, aiutaci tu...

Well, it's Gruberova. All her glories, all her faults, and every one of her years. But this has all been discussed elsewhere. Not owning the Nightingale label Beatrice, I'm very pleased to hear her sing this particular aria.

I think people can "find" this performance any way they like. Everyone's entitled to their opinions. However, fact remains, she's up there being paid, applauded and validated, and the armchair critics are confined to their armchairs. If she's happy where she is, and the critics are happy where they are, then who cares if some people don't like this performance, because everyone's happy.
