what was the point of taking the risk, al u had to do was to go to wii settings update wii and there thats done, u dont have to worry about it anymore

The reason why it didn't brick this one is because the update on Paper Mario is 2.1E, the same as on the system.

I've updated my Wii today to 2.2E and afterwards updated with Mario. You're quite lucky your Wii didn't brick as the update is to 2.2E.
