  • I've seen pictures of the Cecil hotel. Tragic it was lost; a complete nonsense

The Shell-mex could have perfectly been elsewhere....

  • My favourite band and leader!. Why did the Cecil go?. What a sell off they had;12,000 lots were listed including 500,000 pieces of silver, 60 pianos, 250 dining tables and furnishings of 600 bedrooms!!!.

  • Again an excellent Jack Payne, thanks a lot!

  • i seem to think i saw some interior photos once and it was the very grandest Victorian style-fancy carvingand palms and all that! What a great clip to have seen!

  • What a shame that happened, I bet the Hotel was georgious. I've seen a film clip of the Cecil band, and the broadcasting microphone was like a milk crate!

  • Just checked and it was bought by "Shell"in 1930,and remodelled to become the Shell mex office building.

  • I have never heard this before-just lovely!I have the Hotel Cecil band playing"High High High up in the hills"somewhere. The hotel was very sumptuous, but was swept away around 1934 i think for the art deco shell-mex building(i think!)
