Easy i have the 10.10 and i did after i have downloaded to my vindows 7 create a boot up sd card with linux on it and well boot up from that install it and update it do not upgrade to 11. series on hp 2133 will freeze to death . Recomend you to not to install any free or other version of avast or avg or panda or what ever mine gotten after the install extremely slow. What you can do since the effect does not not working on mine due to video card capes so i got a very nice theme with effects !

is there a way to do this with a mac? after making the partition in disk utility im lost on actually making the usb bootable.

@kyledrums If you want to put MacOS on the USB drive, then try a disk cloner like SuperDuper!. If you are putting Ubuntu on the USB from MacOS... Not sure, but first thing I would try is open Disk Utility, select my Ubuntu iso and then click "burn" and try to choose the USB as destination.

@carlblemming i got ubuntu on my usb via VMware fusion and when i boot up my netbook one partition did just what yours did on the vid. the second brought me to a similar black screen, where you typed help, but i just have a blinking cursor at the top and then nothing happens. i have a hp mini 1000 that has xp on it. used a scandisk usb with 8gb. any thoughts/tips? much appreciated. thanks.

@kyledrums With more than one partition it may be a Grub issue. I tried to paste a link in this reply but Youtube isn't letting me! Go to ubuntuforums and search for "nomodeset cursor" and you can find some things to try.

@lordinvoker Are you using the 10.10 version? I got the standard desktop too on that one. In this video I used the Lucid Lynx netbook edition, version 10.04.
