When you live in your vehicle, when/if you're not working or doing normal day to day things, where should you park your vehicle, especially overnight?

Parking Program Phone Numbers:
Santa Barbara, Ca (805) 963-7777
Ventura, Ca (805) 659-3598
Eugene, Or (541) 514-1435

There's a lot to consider:
-Is the neighborhood safe?
-What's the crime rate in the area?
-Are there vehicle size restrictions?
-Is the area patrolled by police often?
-Is it an excessively cold or hot location?
-Should you park level, uphill, or downhill?
-Are vehicles often broken into in the area?
-Are there vehicle size parking restrictions?
-Is there a safe parking program in your area?
-Are there "No Trespassing" & "Tow Away" Signs?
-How vigilant is the neighborhood? Will you blend in?
-Are security guards and cameras nearby? If so, might they report you?
-Are there times you cannot park due to street sweeping or other timed limits?
-How can you park strategically for fuel efficiently and accessing areas you need?
-Is it illegal to sleep in a vehicle in your location? If it is, are you willing to commit civil disobedience and get arrested?
-Should you parking in residential areas, plaza lots, city lots, parking garages, rest stops, campgrounds, tent towns, church lots, at the beach/river, a friend/relative's place, etc...

Tips: keep cell phone charged and reachable; don't keep cell phone to close to your body to avoid cancer risks; don't leave your keys in the ignition; keep keys near you; don't leave theft temptations visible; put curtains or sun-prevention visors up to reduce heat and shield you from window breaks.

  • Good stuff. I'll be back in the van for a bit .. I enjoy it . Great way to see the world around us .

  • @Beachcrib Great. be safe.

  • Is there a way to get a year pass to some camp grounds?

  • @Christopher711 I do not know. You'd have to look it up online. Different campgrounds are owned by businesses, state governments, and federal government. You'd have to look up the campground up online and call them.

  • This is full of so many good points that I haven't seen on other videos. Thank you so much for the input!

  • @angelcarnivore You're welcome. Thanks for wathcing.

  • I want to try living in a box van.

  • @Acetoxy Best wishes on your journey.

  • @jeff4justice Thanks for reply. After reading my own reply, I feel I left out a bit. The reason I like the woods (not only because of the scenery), is that I can spread out a little bit. No people around my tent who may (or may not) react on how I live (I don't have work, so not much money, and that's why leaving Norway). Since many cities around Europe is near forests, I did not think about how it was around US cities (sorry). I tend to walk or use bus to get where I want to be.

  • @Acetoxy I do not camp in a tent to not able to help with advice sorry.

    Thanks for watching my vids.
