@boulderdancer Yipee, My hometown!, Saw a boat sink at Willamette park once, only the tip of the bow was visible..no floatation onboard. All boats should have some floatation so you only swamp & not sink. Tried to swamp/sink our 18' Reinell, twice. Partition off volume in your boat, sheetmetal for these Aluminums, use some expanding foam..better to swamp , not sink, so you don't whack your pump along the bottom like shown here.

Bummer..
You can hear the driver trying to keep it running but the motor choked out on river water.
A chambered intake system might have kept the water out.
Safety gear worked good, glad no other racers hit them.
