  • What is it that you have on your index finger that you glide the thread with?

And also, I'm a fly tier in Iceland and love to see people tie Icelandic flies.

i can't find any videos of Icelandic flies.

I would love to see you tie Laxa Blue or any other Icelandic fly.

I can send you recipes of flies if you'd like?

  • Hi heimair,

It's a small piece of wax which I use like you said to coat the thread..I do have a couple of flies that are well used and fished in Iceland but l don't have a pattern which is directly known as an Icelandic pattern like the Laxa Blue if you have a dressing which you would like me to tye sometime then please send me it...

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie

What wax are you using ween you are tying this fly i mean the wax on your finger

  • Hi MrKristjan1989,

The wax I use is called Prepared Fly Tyers Wax from Veniards. It a solid piece and what I do is break a small piece off then manage it between my fingers making it soft and tacky, then I keep it on the side of my finger as you can easily use it , which keeps it soft.

    All the best Davie

  • A great fly and lovely tying Davie, I first saw the pattern in ireland about 7 years ago in ballina angling centre, but it is very similar to the sheila fly I think which i believe is Scottish? It is the first time I have noticed you using wax on your flies is it something you would always do when tying a hair wing Pattern.

    Best Wishes John

  • Hi John (Englandcaz),

Glad you like the fly, I do use wax at times mostly for those stubborn materials and as well I felt that it would help many that were having problems with their tyings..

    All the best Davie
