At Thistle School 29, July 8, 2009 - Members of the School dancing at the Gala to the music of Bobby Brown and the Scottish Accent. The Thistle School of Scottish Country Dance, holding its twenty-ninth session, provides instruction in the correct techniques and manner of Scottish Country Dancing, the historic and contemporary social dancing of Scotland. Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina provides essential accommodation in dormitories, classrooms, dining hall, etc. Thistle School, founded in 1980 by Duard and Elizabeth Lee Barnes of Washington DC, and Ted and Marilyn Blaschke of Atlanta, Georgia, has been held annually, with the exception of the sabbatical year of 1993, on the campus of Lees-McRae College.
