One of my favourite books - Waterlog by Roger Deakin - opens with the lyrics of this song. I hadn't heard the song until now. I can see why he used it!

I saw Loudon once at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. As he started playing this - on banjo - there was a gentle but sharp intake of breath from the audience, it was so beautiful.

I ran across this song this morning reading about Paul Lundgren who leaves on Monday 11 June (2012) to swim 76 miles across the Sea of Cortez... superhuman feat if he can do it. I also train as an open water swimmer, but not in this league (who is?). "The Swimming Song"... What a perfect theme song for a great attempt at something never done before.
