On June 25th, 2011, 300 youth (ages 11 -- 18 years) competed in "The Airmazing Race," Clean Air Network's a scavenger hunt for clean air. The event was a great success, with students from over 75 different schools taking part.
The focus of the Race was to shine a spotlight on Hong Kong's increasingly serious air pollution problem in an unconventional, innovative manner. Participants had to complete a total of eight modules, all based on air pollution facts, ranging from the serious -- such as finding and photographing all of Hong Kong's three roadside monitoring stations -- to the silly -- where they had to find a "blue" person, located at a blue-colored MTR station. In this fun and exciting way, CAN highlighted air pollution's detrimental health impacts, as well as the lack of public consciousness and the insufficient attention given to reducing these air pollution problems. After gaining greater understanding of the current state and causes of air pollution in Hong Kong, CAN hopes that youth will become motivated to become advocates for clean air.
