my other 7Ah SLA battery stayed in storage too long and looks like an open circuit, reads at 9v with no load and causes the energizer's (orange) neons to flash blue.. Going to try the first few cycles with a high capacitance in parallel..

Yeah that can happen, the cap in parallel might work, I usually start on one's like that with a high frequency solid state circuit at very low power for a bit to get some energy flowing through the battery.
